2016 Hyundai Sonata Earns Five-Star Safety Rating, Available Now at Lake Norman Hyundai

2016 Hyundai Sonata Earns Five-Star Safety Rating

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata is continuing the mid-sized sedan’s safety tradition. Last month, the 2016 Sonata received a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2016 Sonata Hybrid was also awarded a five-star overall rating.

The NHTSA’s five-star rating is one of the industry’s most prestigious safety ratings, and it’s indicative of Hyundai’s commitment to safety. But it’s not the first time the Sonata has received top marks for safety. Last year, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata was named a 2015 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.

In the NHTSA’s tests, the 2016 Sonata received five stars for the front and side crash tests, and it received a four-star rating for the rollover test. One reason for the rating: The Sonata’s standard safety technology, which includes ABS brakes, electronic stability and traction control, and seven airbags, including a newly introduced driver’s airbag. Plus, the 2016 Sonata is also equipped with an automatic braking feature. But those aren’t the only available safety tech features in the 2016 Sonata; drivers can upgrade for a truly impressive suite of safety technology.

We couldn’t be happier at Lake Norman Hyundai. Our entire team knows how committed Hyundai is to engineering some of the safest vehicles on the market, and this is just added proof. Visit us today and test drive the five-star safety rated 2016 Sonata and Sonata Hybrid.

2016 Hyundai Sonata: Available and Optional Safety Features

A range of sonar systems are available on the 2016 Sonata, and they’re designed to prevent collisions and help drivers stay safe on the road. These sonar features include:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring: The Sonata Blind Spot Detection system employs radars to detect vehicles and obstructions in the driver’s blind spot. Additionally, the system is built with a Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system. This is ideal for city drivers, as it alerts the driver of cars approaching from the side when the Sonata is in reverse. Finally, another feature of this monitoring system is the Lane Change Assist feature. This system calculates the speed and distance of approaching vehicles, and informs the driver if a lane change is safe.
  • Automatic Braking: The available Automatic Emergency Braking system is designed to sense a collision and apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t react. The system is built with camera and radar sensor, and it’s functional at speeds from 5 to 50 mph.
  • Blue Link Connected Care: The 2016 Sonata is equipped with a collision notification feature which alerts responders when an airbag has deployed. This can lead to more timely crash response from safety professionals. Plus, the Blue Link system also alerts drivers of required maintenance and stats about vehicle performance.
  • High Beam Assist: On the road, it can be a challenge to switch the high beams on and off, as you approach an oncoming vehicle. The Sonata’s Automatic High Beam Assist feature does this for you. When an oncoming vehicle is detected, the Sonata’s high beams are automatically turned to low beam.
  • Rear Parking Sensors: The Sonata is available with a rear parking assist system, which uses sensors in the bumper to alert drivers of an obstruction in the rear of the vehicle. As the vehicle gets close to an object, the system audibly alerts the driver.

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata has once again received top marks for safety. It’s an ideal sedan for the whole-family, with excellent security and safety technology available. If you’re interested in the 2016 Sonata, contact Lake Norman Hyundai today.
